Mughal Empire

The Mughal Empire was an early-modern empire that controlled much of the Indian subcontinent between the 16th and 19th centuries empire and is conventionally said to have been founded in 1526 by Babur. The Mughal imperial structure, however, is sometimes dated to 1600, to the rule of Babur's grandson, Akbar. This imperial structure lasted until 1720, shortly after the death of the last major emperor, Aurangzeb. The empire was formally dissolved by the British Raj after the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

The Mughals' coinage divided into different phases, the wandering or regional phase, which lasted from 1526 to 1556 and featured emperors Babur and Humayun; the classical period, which lasted from 1556 to 1707 and featured leaders such as Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb.
